In the year 1135, as a result of the proclamation of the Galician king Alfonso VII as the emperor and thanks to his own donations and privileges, the building of Santa Maria de Aciveiro commenced, Monastery incorporated to the Cister around the year 1170.
The Monastery is situated very near to the route of the Lérez bridges, and it is very close to the environmentally protected zone of Sierra de Candán mountain chain, which provides access to the traveller to numerous walking routes.
The Monastery keeps the architectonical structure exactly following the guidelines of the Cister; around the cloister the different premises are distributed: kitchen, refectorium, scriptorium, meeting room of the monks, cells of the monks, stables…
Nowadays, it is a Hotel Monument recently rehabilitated in with history and functionality and modern services has been combined wisely.
