Quinta Couselo winery is situated in the O Rosal valley, the limits of which are the River Miño to the south and the Atlantic ocean to the west. This enclave has a special microclimate with an atlantic influence with mild temperatures, ample rain and the necessary sun for the maturation of the grapes.
The main objective of Quinta Couselo throughout its history has been and always will be to obtain the highest quality in the elaboration of its wines, brandies and liqueurs. This is a small and friendly winery with a long family tradition with a special love for the world of wine. The design of the winery is traditional with stone and timber.
Quinta Couselo winery was initially acquired in 1163 by Cistercian monks belonging to Oia Monastery . The monks interest to extend their properties in the O Rosal Valley was based on their discovery of the great potential for wine production in these lands.
Quinta Couselo is a typical rosal wine, made of a blend of three local grape varieties. Albariño, 70% of the composition, which gives this wine its personality. The 20% of loureiro (also called marques) brings elegance, subtlety and finesse while the white caíño, 10%, heightens and completes this great wine.Turonia, this single varietal albariño reached the market for the firsttime in 2002 with the 2001 vintage and a small production of 12.000 bottles. It is a monovarietal white wine , elaborated with the Albariño grape at 100%.
Quinta Couselo winery also makes aguardiente of orujo,coffee ,herbs ,mirabelle as well as coriander liqueurs.
