Begin your day trip with a visit to Baiona, a picturesque, historic coastal town near Vigo. Explore the medieval center and visit the nearby Fort of Monterreal. Discover the site where La Pinta arrived, bringing the first news of the discovery of a new world by Christopher Columbus. Between the fortress and the town, visit a replica of Columbus's vessel, known as the Floating Museum. Next, head to Santiago de Compostela, the site of the shrine dedicated to St. James, one of the apostles of Jesus Christ and a destination for thousands of pilgrims. Explore the historic center and the Cathedral, and visit the nearby monastery of San Martino Pinario, the second largest monastery in Spain. On your way back to Porto, stop in Vigo to see the Christmas lights (only between November and the first week of January).
