Pedra Furada Coruña

The 5-course 'Pedra' menu (€49) had satisfying elements in an overall disjointed dining experience. I never give much attention to the amuse bouche, but it was decent, although the wafer was way too thin for eating by hand. The cherry tomato starter was the weakest course of the meal, other than being peeled nothing was done to the tomatoes, which at the end of November are not that mind-blowing even in Spain. The smoked croquette with the lightly blanched prawns, on the other hand, provided an excellent balance of delicate and forward flavors, as did the third course of scallops, leek cream and breadcrumbs. The codfish of the fourth was excellently fried and perfectly juicy, and the baked leek would have worked great as well, were it not for the chorizo skin sauce which was overpowering everything else on the plate. The canelloni was awfully underdone with the meat not particularly flavorful (a crime in Galicia, I'm sure!) but the truffle sauce worked. The sorbet with pineapple and cream was nothing special. The third standout course was the finishing course, with a delicate level of sweetness to not push it over the top as is too typical with flan. While my server was enthusiastic and lovely, I mostly didn't have the same hurdles of communicating in English at other restaurants as I did here. Her wine suggestions were delicious on their own but not particularly tailored to the courses as I asked her to with the help of Google Translate. I feel like this restaurant tries to be two diametrically opposing things at once: a friendly neighborhood joint where regulars could pop into for drinks and nibbles, as well as the Michelin Guide listed contemporary bistro they are. Being in it is about correct for the experience I had, but Bib Gourmand would be attainable with a better focus. Maybe also consider ditching the Ikea furniture.

Had the 8 course tasting menu for dinner - food was exceptional. Service was attentive and he helped pick out some unusual Galician wines which paired well with the food. The Albamar Caino wine was a revelation! The only critique would be that the lighting was very bright and stark for dinner and took away from the ambience
