Spain are the reigning World Cup and European champions (twice in a a row!) so it's a major topic of conversation in the streets and in the bars!  This will impress new found friends by rehearsing the historic lineup that beat Holland 1-0 on 11 July 2010 in Soccer City Stadium,Johannesburg thanks to a goal from Andres Iniesta:

In Galicia Deportivo La Coruña are in La Liga – see the official website.

Estadio Municipal de Riazor Home of Real Club Deportivo de La Coruña

Celta de Vigo are also in La Liga - see the official website. Lugo are in Division 2a. Ourense are in the Third Division. During the football season most of the conversations in local bars seems to centre on the fortunes of Real Madrid and Barcelona when local opinion seems to be very animated but divided!

Football seems to be very popular too at the grassroots level.  A football ground is never far way in every part of Galicia.  Local residents have good access to these facilities which are generally open to the public as well. For example in Baiona the local football team, Erizana CF have a modern, purpose-built full size Astro Turf football stadium with changing/training facilities as well as a separate stadium for the first team.

During the football season 2010-11 Erizana Football Club from Baiona were sponsored by MyGaliciaInfo.Com!
