We almost walked straight past Taverna A Mina, and that would have been a mistake. It feels like the kind of place that’s been serving locals for years. Nothing fancy, nothing staged, just great food and a room full of regulars. That’s usually the best recommendation you can get. The first thing to know is that these are not tapas-sized portions. We ordered far too much because we expected small plates. The dishes here are generous, so order less than you think you need. You can always add more afterwards. The octopus was the star of the meal. It arrived as a whole octopus over potatoes with olive oil and paprika, perfectly tender with excellent flavour. The croquetas were exceptional, crisp on the outside and wonderfully creamy inside. The Spanish omelette was soft, rich and beautifully cooked, while the mussels were fresh, plump and full of flavour. Beer lovers will appreciate 1906 on draft, along with a surprisingly large drinks selection. A few things are worth knowing before you visit. Check the opening hours because they close between services. Seating is mostly on long wooden benches rather than individual chairs, so keep that in mind if comfort is important. English isn’t widely spoken, but everyone was welcoming and ordering wasn’t difficult. My friends ordered the pig’s ear. I didn’t try it myself, but they each had one bite and decided it wasn’t for them. That’s probably more a matter of unfamiliar taste than poor cooking, as it’s a traditional Galician dish. If you’re looking for polished fine dining, this probably isn’t the place. If you want an authentic Galician tavern serving generous portions of excellent seafood at fair prices, surrounded mostly by locals, you’ll likely leave very happy. It ended up being one of our favourite meals in Vigo.
Great for one person with bar seating option. Tortilla de patata was excellent. Steamed Mussels were also great. The place is a little dirty feeling with no bathroom sink and no aircon but it was perfect for a quick solo meal.
Cool quirky place with tatooed servers but service is great and the food is fabulous. Grateful they let us finish eating while they were trying to close! Oh, and definitely try the octopus toast!
We arrived quite early as a group of 8 without making a booking, and the hosts immediately accommodated us. The menu is written on a chalkboard, and specials with translation were given to us via handwritten note. The initial crowd was post work locals, and later on, it started filling up with more locals. The seafood was excellent, far better than the lunch we had at a restaurant at the market. Other options were also well received - croquettes, pork, meatballs etc. Great beer on tap. Authentic, non-touristy, festive atmosphere and good service. I'm very glad we chose Mina and would go there again.
