A Carballesa Casa de Comidas

A fantastic meal at A Carballesa Casa de Comidas in Santiago de Compostela. The grilled octopus was excellent, tender, beautifully cooked and served with potatoes and a rich Galician style sauce. The cannelloni were another highlight, creamy and full of flavour, while the chipirón croquettes were a really interesting surprise, with their dark squid-ink filling and crispy exterior. Everything was well prepared, generous and full of flavour, and the glass of local white wine paired perfectly with the seafood. Friendly service, authentic Galician food and a very enjoyable atmosphere. Definitely one of our best meals in Santiago. Highly recommended! 🐙🍷✨
Everything was superb! The food was outstanding, the service was exceptional, and the restaurant has a beautiful modern atmosphere. Our server made sure we were well taken care of and spoke English with us, which we really appreciated. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his Solomillo de Vaca (steak), and I absolutely loved the grilled octopus—it was perfectly cooked and full of flavor. For dessert, we had the cheesecake, which was light, creamy, and absolutely delicious. We had a wonderful dining experience and would definitely recommend this restaurant!
We were escorted here by a lovely lady from their sister restaurant in the old town which was fully booked. Very friendly staff and delicious food at very reasonable prices. Berenjena with Galician honey, empanada and Russian Salad were really tasty. When full it can get quite noisy but there are tables at the front of the restaurant which seemed quieter. Well worth a visit.
Great restaurant with great food and great service. We arrived early and were greeted by the entire staff. As the food arrived we were given an explanation of what we were eating. Great wine selection with each of our dishes. Highly recommend
During our trip through Portugal and Spain, after completing the Camino de Santiago, we stayed at a hotel that happened to be very close to this restaurant. We went there twice because it was truly spectacular — in fact, we can honestly say it was the best restaurant we visited during our entire trip. Later, we weren’t surprised to learn that many people consider it the best restaurant in Santiago de Compostela. We highly recommend it! We tried several dishes (photos attached), and every one of them was exceptional — beautifully presented, full of flavour, and perfectly prepared. Our personal favourites were the “fabas guisadas con pulpo y almejas” (a hearty stew served in a small pot with beans, octopus, and clams), the “Arroz de Mel Gibson”, and the cheese and cold cuts board, all absolutely amazing. The service was outstanding on both visits — they made us feel completely at home, with warm and attentive hospitality that truly elevated the experience. The atmosphere is elegant yet cozy, and the overall experience was exceptional. An absolute must-visit in Santiago!
