O Dezaseis
Galicia
With a friendly mix of fellow tourists, backpackers and locals, O Dezaseis is a bubbling pot of Galician culture and cuisine. Visitors to Santiago de Compostela will find hotel staff, shop owners and taxi drivers recommending this spacious restaurant, such is its prestigious reputation for great food and a sociable atmosphere. There are three separate eating areas to choose from; an outside plaza for alfresco dining, an upstairs area more suitable for larger groups, whilst downstairs is tastefully decorated with rustic stonework and artwork and the most likely spot for chatting amongst the locals.
As for the food, the “Polbo á Grella” – ‘Grilled Octopus’ to me and you – is a speciality that is encouraged to be tried, with typical Spanish and Galician side dish recipes varying as the menu changes. Stuffed peppers, creamy mushroom rice or turnip greens, it is certainly a dish which leaves curious diners happy that they left their comfort zones. There are of course plenty of other seafood, meat and tapas dishes to choose from; for example, tuna or prawns combined with an array of vegetables and salads, all locally sourced to ensure the freshest ingredients are used.
