Restaurante aCantina
Galicia
Restaurante aCantina is the most popular attraction in Ribeira Sacra being the gateway to this heroic wine producing area. Located in a small but pretty village of Doade close to a number of winerys like Bodegas Regina Viarum and Ponte da Boga. The restaurant which originally opened in 1947 is housed in a traditional buiding which has been refurbished. The menu is extensive from pastas, scrambled eggs, salads to meat and fish dishes especially reflecting its mountainous, interior location. Prices are very reasonable and the wine list consists of an extensive selection of local wines from Ribeira Sacra. Restaurante aCantina is well located to visit the canyons of the River Sil and Mino and surrounding countryside. There is also a tourist train Aba Saca which operates from the restaurant, a great way to explore the spectacular landscape of Ribeira Sacra.
It is important to remember that around the second century the romans came to this land for gold and found a place with a special charm: The Land of Doade and Amandi. Nineteen centuries later, although there are nuggets of gold along the Sil, they no longer come to Ribeira Sacra looking for this precious metal. The real motive of the journey now is the pursuit of natural beauty , food and flight to encounter the Mother Earth.
In this historical context shaped by the Benedictine imprint, is located this hospitable, modern and recently renovated restaurant in a space that converges history and the future, nostalgia and modernism. A group of architects and designers shared the same dream: to revive the microhistory of a small village in the interior of Galicia where textures blend with the design.
There is a set price meal for 9€ and special prices for groups (check out the website www.acantina.es) The food is based on Grand Mum's cookery with local products of from the farm washed down with Amandi wine.
