Pedro Barrié de la Maza Foundation
Galicia
Museums
Back in 1966, entrepreneur Pedro Barrie de la Maza invested his fortune to create the privately funded foundation, Fundacion Barrie. He set up the project with the aim of promoting sustainable development in Galicia, in particular the areas of education and development of talent.
The centre in A Coruna holds lectures, seminars, exhibitions and concerts alongside daily teaching activities for schools and members of the general public. There are a number of flexible spaces for meetings and conferences, an auditorium for 369 people and 1,000 square meters of showrooms.
The foundation holds regular exhibitions like the Francisco Llorens art exhibition, where his daughter Eva Llorens donated 59 oil paintings and drawings from around Galicia. They have also been home to a number of jazz concerts as well as master classes held by musicians like pianist James Williams. With the library holding over 40,000 volumes and periodical publications (open Monday – Wednesday: 9.30am – 2pm), it's the perfect location for an array of educational activities too, with regular workshops allowing kids to take part in theatre, dance and music events.
