Virgen de la Roca - Galicia
An interesting fact is if we could put the Virgen de la Roca and the Statue of Liberty in the same place, they would be face to face, welcoming all who came by boat.

Directions to Virgen de la Roca
Thanks to its peculiar making Virgen de la Roca is probably the best known monument in Baiona. It was built with granite on San Roque hill, right on the rocks. The magnificent and remarkable Galician modernist architect Antonio Palacios was its maker and the work was inaugurated in 1930. It is 15 metres tall and it portraits Blessed Virgin Mary with a boat/viewpoint in her right hand. To access the mirador there is an inner stone-made spiral-staircase. This is open from 10am to 10 pm and costs 1,50€. The Virgin's hands and face are made of white marble, while her crown was built in china.
A huge playground was later built in the surrounding area, with a Way of the Cross, stone benches and tables. The last Sunday of August is a popular festival to honour Our Lady.
There is a small canteen close to the Virgen de la Roca which serves light refreshments. It's open from 12 noon to 9 pm in the summer months of July,August and September.
