A Coffee in Baiona, Galicia

Coffee improves your mood, helps you stay focused and alert, and reduces fatigue

Baiona is a wonderful resort with an unique location, where you can enjoy the beaches, walks with superb views, or even try one of the hiking trails in the mountains that the town offers visitors. Another alternative, as we did, is to visit the old town, full of architectural treasures and monuments. Throughout this exploration, we stopped off along the way to take in a good coffee; the town is full of cafes, from where we can enjoy a coffee from one of the terraces.

Coffee is great for the health due to the large amount of antioxidants, which slow down the ageing of cells, and gives you energy because the caffeine stimulates the nervous system. This improves your mood, helps you stay focused and alert, and reduces fatigue accumulated throughout the day. We should also mention that taking three or four cups a day reduces the risk of developing diseases such as cancer, Alzheimer's disease, or neurodegenerative diseases, and helps prevent the formation of blood clots due to its high magnesium, potassium and fluoride content. This diuretic drink is also helpful for all people with constipation problems.

We start off at Carabela La Pinta street, which has been recently pedestrianized. Here we visit Xuntos, a café/ice cream shop (price of coffee: 1,10- 1,20 €), where the children can buy an artisan ice cream, while the parents enjoy a good coffee. Similar to this is Gamela, very well located in Elduayen Street (coffee: 1.55 €), which offers an assortment of ice creams, some with yogurts and others with handmade fruit.

Following the route, we arrive at the newest part of town, Los Tendales. Near a children’s play area and with a football field in the background, it is a very quiet area and especially ideal for those who have less budget to spend. A cluster of cafes presides in this area including Cofee-pan (0,90 €), Cooper (1 €) and Coffee-time (1 €). The coffee in all of these are great, served with a slice of homemade cake. While in Copena, as well as buying our bread, we can also get delicious pastries and coffee too. If you are looking for a good game of cards, then it’s Zenaide, also in La Carabela La Pinta or Sergivan in the popular Ventura Misa Street, for just 1 €.

If you want to enjoy the views from its bay, head towards the Paseo de Elduayen. From here we can encounter the iconic cafeteria Monterey, Mar y Arte, La Anunciada Cerchas (for fans of Madrid), who have great coffee thanks to Cafes Siboney, and El Tranvia , which recently opened with exquisite decoration in stone based on ancient murals that recreate the time of the tram in Baiona; it is a wonderful place with stunning sea views. Ending the tour, we have to make a stop in El Pazo de Mendoza . Sitting in the terrace enjoying a unique view and having a coffee for 1.55 €. If we are going to the Cies Islands, we can wait for the boat over breakfast at El Cais or cafeteria Erizana.

We must mention La Boqueria , a designer restaurant with a stunning kitchen, but where you can go just to have a coffee of the highest quality (ground at the time to preserve its flavour). In front the Dominican Nuns sell handmade homemade cakes, which are a delight for the palate.

If you want to play pool, darts or a game of table football, you have to go to the Pool-Bola, in Monterreal Avenue.

In the wine area, there are also very good local coffee places, but we will save that for another article, when we talk about going out for tapas and wine. We’ve probably missed out one or two as well to comment upon, but with this great assortment of cafeterias, it’s enough for you to make a start. We hope this report will be of great help and that you will especially enjoy the route. UN CAFE EN LA VILLA DE BAIONA

Baiona es un lugar maravilloso con un enclave único, donde uno puede disfrutar de las playas, de sus paseos con unas vistas inmejorables, o hacer una de las rutas  de senderismo que la villa ofrece a sus visitantes en sus montanas. Otra de las alternativas es visitar su casco histórico, lleno de joyas arquitectónicas y monumentos, durante este recorrido, podemos hacer un alto en el camino para tomarnos un buen café, la villa está llena de cafeterías, desde donde podemos disfrutar tomándonos un café desde alguna de sus terrazas.

El café es buenísimo para la salud debido a la gran cantidad de antioxidantes, que detienen el envejecimiento de las células que aparte de llenarte de energía, debido a que la cafeína estimula el sistema nervioso, mejorando tu estado de animo,te ayuda a mantener la concentración y agilidad mental ,disminuyendo el cansancio acumulado durante todo el día también mencionar que tomando entre tres y cuatro tazas al dia,disminuye el riesgo de desarrollar enfermedades como el cáncer, padecer Alzheimer,o enfermedades neurodegenerativas,o evitar la formación de coágulos sanguíneos, y debido a su alto contenido en  Magnesio,Potasio y Fluoruro,esta bebida diurética es de gran ayuda para todas las personas con problemas de estreñimiento.Empezamos por la calle Carabela La Pinta, recientemente humanizada, aquí esta Xuntos, una cafetería-heladería (precio de un café: 1,10- 1,20 €), donde los peques de la casa pueden tomarse un helado artesano, mientras los papas degustan un buen café, al igual que Gamela, muy bien situada en Elduayen (un café:1,55€), donde ofrecen un gran surtido de helados, unos a base de yogures y otros de frutas elaborados artesanalmente, siguiendo con el recorrido, llegamos a la zona de construcción mas reciente, la zona de Los Tendales, una zona juvenil con el campo de futbol, de fondo, muy tranquila y sobre todo ideal para los que disponen de menos presupuesto para gastar, en Cofee-pan (0,90 €), en Cooper (1€) y en Cofee-time (1€), el café es buenísimo, acompañado de trocitos de postres caseros que hace los propietarios sin olvidarnos de Copena, que al mismo tiempo que compramos el pan, podemos degustar un café buenísimo con un gran surtido de pastelitos a su alrededor.

Si lo que buscamos es una buena partida de cartas, lo tomaremos en el Zenaide, situado también en La Carabela La Pinta o en Sergivan, en la popular calle Ventura Misa, por tan solo 1€.

Si lo que queremos es disfrutar de las vistas que ofrece su bahía, el Paseo de Elduayen es perfecto, allí podemos encontrar desde la emblemática cafetería Monterrey,Mar y Arte, La Anunciada (para los aficionados del Madrid) Cerchas, que tiene un buenismo cafe gracias a Cafes Siboney, El Tranvia, una cafetería recién inaugurada, con una decoración exquisita en piedra a base de murales antiguos que recrean la época del tranvía, un lugar maravilloso con unas vistas al mar impresionantes, y terminando el Paseo, tenemos que hacer una parada obligada en el Pazo de Mendoza, sentado en su terraza disfrutaremos de unas vistas únicas, tomando un café por 1,55€. Si pretendemos ir a las Islas Cies, podemos esperar el barco mientras desayunamos en El Cais o en la cafetería Erizana.

Mencionar La Boqueria, un Restaurante de diseño, con una cocina impresionante, pero donde podemos ir tan solo a tomarnos un café, es de muchísima calidad (molido al momento para conservar todo su sabor) y en frente nos encontramos con las Monjas Dominicas que nos venden unos postres caseros elaborados artesanalmente, un deleite para el paladar.

Si queremos jugar al billar, a los dardos o una partida de futbolín, tenemos que ir al Pool-Bola, en la Avenida de Monterreal.

En la zona de vinos, también hay locales muy buenos para tomar un café, pero haremos mención en otro reportaje, cuando hablemos de ir de tapas y vinos, seguramente quedara alguna sin comentar, pero con este gran surtido de cafes, ya podéis empezar, esperamos que este reportaje sea de gran ayuda y sobre todo que os haya gustado, hasta pronto amigos¡
