Arribada Festival

Arribada Festival or Fiesta de la Arribada as its known locally in Baiona commemorates the arrival of Martín Alonso Pinzón ,on 1 March 1493 in his ship 'Pinta' to spread the news of the discovery of the New World (America and trade route to East Indies). Baiona remains today an important a fishing port with recreational marina and is the principal tourist town in the sotuh of the Rias Baixas.

Local residents and toursits alike dress up in fancy costumes and there is a procession/ beach activities where scenes from the previous arrival/period in history are re-inacted. The Old Town of Baiona comes alive with medieval stalls selling tradtional handicrafts, food and wines etc and the bars and restaurants are open all day.
