Santiago de Compostela: Private Walking Tour
3 ReviewsEnjoy a private guided walking tour of Santiago de Compostela, capital of Galicia, one of the historical pilgrimage centers of Christianity, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The centre is highly interactive with full modern facilities and state of the art technology, where visitors can learn about Arbo wine and the Lamprey which is similar to a conger eel. This includes how the vineyards grow so successfully in the south Galician climate and how the Lamprey are caught in accordance with the ecology of the River Mino and other rivers in the Rias Baixas.
Arbo wine is cultivated, harvested and produced in this area and is a fundamental point of culture for the people. It is a white wine including albariño,known for its full fruity bouquet and a taste that lingers on the palate. The ground floor of the centre looks at the history of this harvest and the annual cycle of the seasons. How this has developed through the generations and remains as important to farmers today as it was to their ancestors. Visitors can even sample this wine in the tasting room.
The second floor is more focused on interchangeable exhibitions on the Lamprey eel and looking at other natural features of the area such as the fish that swim wild in the River Mino. The Lamprey is the most famous fish in these regions, eaten grilled by many locals.Or it can be cured and stuffed with ham/eggs served in waifer thin slices like a cured ham. It is a jawless vertebrae that is believed to be the oldest fish in the world. It is famous in this area because there is a Lamprey fishing traps on the River Mino in Arbo. Visitors are able to follow a route along the 'Lamprey Trap' on their visit.
